OUR INGREDIENTS

Our keto porridge wouldn’t be anything without the amazing and natural ingredients we use. We’ve kept it super simple so that we can get the most out of the select few we use but we’ve made the ratio perfect, so that it provides that delicious and creamy texture that regular porridge gives you. We want to celebrate our ingredients and provide some insight into just how fantastic they are.

CHIA SEEDS

These super little seeds come from the flowers of plants within the mint family. Native to Central America and Mexico, chia seeds we’re recognised for their amazing nutritional value in the Aztec and Mayan cultures and were thought to have increased the stamina and energy of anyone who consumed them. The name ‘chia’ actually translates from Mayan to mean ‘strength’.They are usually grown organically and naturally free from gluten and almost all of the carbohydrate content in them is in the form of fiber, which makes them perfect for any keto diet as fiber is not digested by the body. Fiber also feeds the good bacteria in your stomach promoting a healthy gut which is super important. Chia seeds are also good sources of calcium, manganese, magnesium and phosphorus. All of which are key to having increasing and maintaining bone health.Chia seeds are a fundamental part of our keto porridge and there couldn’t be a keto noatmeal without them. They absorb water and milk exceptionally well and give a natural creamy consistency. This also makes our keto porridge very filling so we don’t feel like we need to snack on anything else.

HEMP HEARTS

Hemp hearts are cultivated from the hemp plant, which has been given notoriety for other reasons but the seeds from the hemp plant are packed full of nutrients and rich in healthy fats, protein and minerals that our body loves. They are especially rich in two essential fats, omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.Hemp hearts are an amazing source of protein, particularly beneficial for vegetarians and vegans as they contain a huge amount of natural, plant protein. They also contain high amounts of vitamin E, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc. The benefits of consuming hemp hearts are fantastic and new evidence of how they benefit our bodies are always being discovered. They also provide a really nice nutty flavour to our keto porridge and like chia seeds they have that great quality of providing a creamy texture to our noatmeal.

COCONUT

We use both coconut flour and desiccated coconut flakes as each have their own special benefits. Coconut flour comes from the white fleshy interior of the coconut - this is the same part that is used to make coconut milk but it is instead dried out and ground down into a flour. Coconut flour has many benefits and is a staple in keto and low carb alternative foods as it is also great source of dietary fiber, vitamin C and thiamine (vitamin B1) and Manganese. This enables coconut flour to support collagen synthesis, brain, stomach and heart health.  It contains less calories than oats but packs just as much protein as oats. Our keto porridge wouldn’t be the same without coconut flour and we celebrate this ingredient a lot, not only for its nutritional value but for the natural absence of gluten and for it’s quality in providing a great substitute for wheat and grain flours.

FLAX SEEDS

Flaxseed comes from the flax plant and has been grown for thousands of years, dating back to ancient Egypt. It was cultivated for more purposes than just nutrition as it was used to make linen. Flaxseeds are again rich in healthy fats such as omega-3 fatty acids and also lignans, which are plant compounds that have antioxidant properties. These antioxidants protect us from a number of diseases like heart disease and cancer. Their macro-nutrient profile is perfect for a keto diet as they are low in carbohydrates and contain those healthy fats that our body is after. They are also a great source of protein and they are rich in dietary fiber, to help promote a healthy gut and keep us fuller for longer.Flax seed has a special place in our keto porridge  and just adds an extra layer of delicious and nutritious benefits to the overall profile of our keto noatmeal.

STEVIA & ERYTHRITOL

Stevia, which comes from the stevia plant, has been used for more than 1,500 years by the Guaraní natives in South and Central America to sweeten up teas and medicines. Known by them as the ‘sweet herb’, stevia is a great alternative to sugar to provide a bit of sweetness to not just our keto breakfast but to any dish. Erythritol is also a natural sugar replacement and gets its sweetness from the fermentation of fruits and it is a sugar alcohol which means it’s not digested by the body and doesn’t cause a spike in your insulin or blood sugar levels. This makes it perfect for those on restricted diets. But the benefits don’t just stop there because they are both very beneficial for your oral health and hygiene, as they do not feed the bad bacteria within your mouth. These two ingredients are saviours in any keto diet snack as these special ingredients replace sugar and provide an awesome sweetness to a lot of keto diet products without the same negative affects that sugar does.
